The PHARMEX Asia 2014 exhibition was a first time event in Thailand that firmly established itself as the most important pharmaceutical platform for ASEAN. “It was a top-level international gathering of pharmaceutical manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, pharmacists, doctors, consultants, hospitals, laboratories and healthcare professionals from the region that exceeded all expectations”, explained David Aitken, Managing Director of co-organsisers Asian Exhibition Services Ltd.
Supporting the event, Dr. Boonchai Sombunsuk, Secretary General of the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) described the event as “vital for promoting Thailand’s pharmaceutical manufacturing industry so that it achieves higher capacity and competitiveness and can step into the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015 with confidence”. PHARMEX Asia 2014 attracted almost 4,978 trade professionals of which 44.19% were international. PHARMEX Asia is the region’s only dedicated pharmaceutical exhibition and will return again alongside the Asia-Pacific pharmaceutical congress (FAPA) at BITEC in 2016
According to the government audited report, PHARMEX Asia 2014 attracted its trade professionals from 49 countries. Predominantly the buyers came from Southeast Asia, Central Asia, South Asia and the Far East with the highest overseas attendance coming from Malaysia, followed by China, Singapore, Taiwan, India, Mongolia, Laos, Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Korea, Myanmar, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Brunei.
PHARMEX Asia 2014 was fittingly the first exhibition to be supported by the Ministry of Public Health and this was an important step in establishing its full industry support from manufacturers and suppliers alike and indeed from the regional buyer and industry support groups. “The Ministry of Public Health is the main supporter and endorser of PHARMEX Asia 2014”, it was announced at the opening, with additional support from GPO, FDA, TCEB, the Pharmaceutical Council of Thailand, the Pharmaceutical Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage and their eighteen affiliated industry organisations.
Attendance at the event, according to the audit, came in the majority from drug manufacturers followed by laboratories, government officials, distributors, hospitals & clinics, consultants, retail pharmacists, service providers, and healthcare facilities.
As a total solutions event for the industry, PHARMEX Asia 2014 was able to leverage extensive government, commercial and media support with headline sponsors including the Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO), Mega We Care, Huawei, DKSH and Siam Pharmaceutical, plus ten official publications and the Bangkok Post as its media partner. In total there were 206 exhibiting companies from 32 countries participating.
